Showcasing my best work

Welcome to my artifacts page, where I present a selection of my strongest writing projects from this semester. Here, you'll find examples of my growth and development in writing, design, audience awareness, and professional communication.

Professional job application materials

Context:

For this project, I created professional application materials for a position in the sports industry. I wrote a cover letter for the Portland Sea Dogs’ Associate Game Day Staff Internship, where I focused on my communication skills, event experience, and ability to connect with fans.

What it demonstrates:

This project shows that I can adjust my writing depending on who I am communicating with. Instead of just listing my experience, I connected my work at the YMCA, my involvement with University of Maine sporting events, and my role with LUG Sports to the skills the Sea Dogs were looking for. This helped me show why my past experiences would make me a good fit for a role in the sports industry.

Proposal for a Professional Leadership Course

Context:

For this assignment, I created a proposal for a professional leadership course that could help juniors and seniors feel more prepared for the workplace. I focused on skills like communication, teamwork, decision-making, handling conflict, and managing projects because these are all things students may need once they graduate.

What it demonstrates:

This project shows that I can take an idea I believe in and explain it in a way that makes sense to a specific audience. I used research to support my points while also giving practical ideas for how the course could work. I broke the proposal into different sections, including the background, proposed solution, benefits, implementation plan, and conclusion. Creating the implementation plan also pushed me to think beyond the idea itself and consider how the course could realistically be put into place.
